This was not the project I was initially going to share today, but you know how the creative process works. Sometimes you go with that idea that pops into your head. I received the new Lavinia mermaids from 7 Kids on Friday and couldn't resist inking them up. (Don't forget to use my referral coupon code when you shop at 7 Kids!! GRI44DVGCA)
I pulled a 12"x12" sheet of beautiful shimmer blue and scored at 0.5", 6", and 11.5" along one side, turned and scored again at 8.5" perpendicular to the first set of score lines. Looking at the paper with the 3 score lines running up and down, I stamped my scene on the large upper right rectangular panel. I turned the paper into a mini pocket folder, so I only wanted to stamp on the front folder portion.
I flipped the Jalandhar jellyfish stamp, using its tentacles as seaweed along the bottom of the panel, masking the lower panel with a scrap of paper. I stamped Water Spirit Verse in the upper left of the panel. Next, I layered Althea mermaid over the scene, using various ink colors to stamp her tail, body, and hair. My final element was the Mini Fish. I added gold shimmer ink to highlights on her tail, hair and her wee fishy friend. It is hard to capture the shimmer and I love how soft and subtle the design is.
To complete the folder, burnish all score lines. Along the 6" folded side, cut a wee triangle from the bottom up to the 8.5" score line. Do NOT cut along the taller rectangle panel you just inked. Next, remove the smaller wee rectangles to the far left and right edges of that triangle you just cut out. That leaves you with an entire 8.5" x 12" upper portion and trimmed lower portion. To assemble, flip up the lower portion and glue the side flaps over to create the folder.
