I found wee bits of time this month to squeeze in some fun makes for three of the (many) challenges that Gecko Galz hosts every month. I am pleased to present my submissions for the Christmas, Stamp, and Gothic Challenges for the month of April.
Christmas Challenge April 2022
I covered the existing sentiment in the image with my own, lower right. It reads, "I hope you like this card. (Because it is also your gift.)" I then added a scripty "Merry Christmas" over the window before printing. I added the panel atop patterned paper from my stash, fussy cutting the poinsettia from a scrap of the same paper. I added wee Nuvo Drops to the flower's center.
The technique I used was dying my image in naturally made dye (onion peels) to age the image. I also altered the red balance before printing to give it a pinkish tint.
I couldn't help noticing how perky our sweet maiden is in the image and thought it would be funny to remark on that. So, the card holds a gift card within to help the forgetful mistress afford a little something for her ladies. ;)
I tried hard to find a silly or snarky saying for this graphic but nothing I found felt right. (Although I did giggle many times in the process.) Instead, I created my own message. I wanted to highlight the importance of individuality and being comfortable with who you really are. The top panel reads, "She never understood why the other kids stared, but she didn't care anyway." The bottom sentiment reads, "She defined herself."
I aged the digital image (photo) as well as the skull and moth die cuts in the same dye bath. It's amazing the depth it adds. I also adore the added texture. I intentionally left the image warped when adhering since it gives the overall project just that extra bit of something. I am stashing this in an art journal. (I need to start one.. LOL I have some many little bits like this made, awaiting their final place in my "thoughts" book.)
